Cory is a native of Tyler County, WV. Cory grew up on Buck Run Road, where his Great Aunt and Uncle owned and operated a dairy farm. Growing up amongst blue collar traditions in a rural community is what drove Cory to pursue a career fighting for the working class. 

Cory graduated cum laude from West Virginia University in 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Minor in Law and Legal Studies. 

Immediately following undergraduate school, Cory attended West Virginia University College of Law. During law school, Cory was an Associate Editor for the West Virginia Law Review and a member of Public Interest Advocates. Cory spent a semester as an extern for the Honorable Michael John Aloi, United States Magistrate Judge for the Northern District of West Virginia in Clarksburg and a summer as an intern for the 4th Circuit Public Defender Corporation in Parkersburg, WV. In his 3L year, Cory joined the Clinical Law Program as a member of the West Virginia Innocence project helping to further cases to exonerate the wrongfully convicted. 

Upon graduation from West Virginia University College of Law in 2018, Cory spent two years as a term law clerk to the Honorable Michael John Aloi, United States Magistrate Judge for the Northern District of West Virginia in Elkins, where he gained invaluable experience and exposure to the legal process and honed his research and writing skills.

After completing his clerkship, Cory spent a year as an attorney for Jan Dils, Attorneys at Law where he successfully represented numerous claimant’s before Administrative Law Judges in their fight to qualify for disability insurance benefits and supplemental security income. Through this experience, Cory deepened his passion in fighting for the working class and developed his skills as an advocate before joining Bailess Law Firm in October of 2021. 

In his free time, Cory enjoys watching sports and spending time with his girlfriend and two dogs. 

Cory is licensed to practice law in the state of West Virginia and the United States District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia.
